I started getting this android is starting....optimizing apps 1 of 1. after reading this thread, i found the problem to be zedge. i've used this app for about 6 years, then a recent forced update started causing the error, making my phone take about 15 minutes to boot. i uninstalled zedge and got rid of the problem.. Initially, android users did not have this problem, but once version 5.0 lollipop started rolling out, a lot of them started seeing the android optimizing apps message after a reboot. specifically, what they got was “ android is starting. optimizing app 1 of x,” with x being the total number of apps they had..
But recently, android has switched to art with lollipop version due to which all the apps will be compiled beforehand making them launch faster. so optimizing the android apps basically means android is compiling all the apps.. First, please understand that the android “optimizing apps” process is completely normal, and occurs in order for your device to rebuild the dalvik-art runtime environment after an update, factory data reset, or other modification to the android os.. "android is starting" "optimizing app x of xxx" i know this should happen once after an upgrade, but it seems to be happening every few re-boots of the phone now..
